Surely a weeks boating in Scotland is a cure for all ills, turns out, it is, maybe, not 100% sure the nurse will agree, but exercise and getting the bloods flowing has got to be good for the health!?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Monday and there’s no scheduled dam release in the calendar, however, the Meig releases 24\/7 365 days a year on a compensation flow, it is a ditch, it is a bash, and it is great fun<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tuesday finds us on the Upper Morriston and the butterflies associated with the drive knowing that top drop is waiting a couple of hundred meters downstream, it could be called 50\/50 as that seems to be the ratio of good to bad runs. Drive left from the eddy, drop through the pocket and onto the slab, that’s the theory, easily done and easily messed up, too high, hit the rock on your left side, too low, another awaits to push you off line and potentially sees you subbing up down the center line, disappearing into the pillow of white at the base of the drop. Lap one, I make the line, lap 2, not so lucky, pushed into the slot landing upside down facing upstream, rolling up to find my deck has imploded and I’m sitting in half a boat of water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Overnight rain brings the Orchy up and we get to run this classic in warm conditions, making a change to the usual winter runs with snow capped peaks and freezing temperatures. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We even manage to squeeze in a cheeky Allt Kinglass, a little on the low side but we also benefited from Brian finding 20 quid on the walk in which bought the post paddle coffee and cake.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thursday has us on the Garry for multiple laps.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Friday, we bag the Allt a Chaorainn on a low natural flow and the Etive<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Lower Morriston, we’ve read about it, we’ve watched the videos, but, its a different game when you are sat in the eddy, snapping your spray deck on to drop in. We dismissed river left and headbanger route on the grounds we didn’t want to bang our heads. River right was our route of choice, it all looks fine from the bridge, and it is, but it is pushier than we expect, there’s some ooomph in the water. We drop down and re group under the main road bridge. We have chosen our route from an earlier roadside inspection, hard right, bit of a rock bash, but, avoiding the I don’t want to go there stoppers above the gun barrel.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We drop down, eddy by eddy, moving on line of sight and whistles when we cannot get line of sight due to the gradient. We run river right initially, down Val Sesia Slide, then clamber out of our boats onto the massive rock to walk back up for the gun barrel and to have a butchers at the the entry move, get that right and it should be pretty straight forward.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We inspect and see the entry is a ferry and a turn from our put in eddy, picking up a fair lick of speed as soon as you’re on the ramp, punching the stopper and everything is golden before the last event, Rollercoaster, we enter river right and coast on down for the hike back to the car park, cracking. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
