Rewind – Knockhill

Overlooking the Firth of Forth and the Queensferry Bridge, Knockhill has been hosting events since 1974, when a local farmer decided to diversify a little, sheep farming to race circuit. At the end of August it hosted the Rewind festival for all things oldskool, just how we like it. Jack and I used it as the starting point for our mooch around Scotland on the Enfields.

An early morning Friday ride up saw us at my usual breakfast cafe just outside Amble in Northumberland, it’s an exclusive little spot offering good brews, food and most importantly conversations, big thanks to Bob and Sue for their as always, brilliant hospitality and company.

The afternoon saw us on the A1, digesting food and conversations heading to Edin burg and the soon threatening rain turning into a downpour as we skirted the big city to Queensferry bridge.

We met up with the Feeley’s, Andrew and Ian Friday evening and the Mumford of the Geoff variety on the Saturday morning. A small event by any standards but the quality of the machines on show and track was exceptional.

Andy’s recently arrived NSR, bought blind from Spain, tensions were high, buying any new bike raises questions, non more than a high performance two stroke, that’s been worked on, from a foreign land, Andy certainly knows how to raise the stakes !!

Ian ( in his perfectly matching leathers of course ) gets to take the bike out for its first run, Andy is injured so the duty is passed to older brother to turn a wheel.

There’s a narrow power band that’s going to take some getting used to, the controls need some altering to suit the maturing rider rather than some racing snake Spaniard but its pulling strong, some dyno time will optimise the running and get the best out of the package.

I never tire of seeing Ian’s big CB, and it is BIG, proper, head turner, the more you look, the more you see, get past the super cool dry clutch set up and there’s more in there than first meets the eye.

Brendan’s stunning ex Phase 1 endurance bike, a long association with Phase 1 and Russel Benney saw this bike land in his garage, it may go back to the team for some more competitive racing in the future.

Brendan’s own CB sits next to Ian’s waiting its turn on track.

Geoff’s new to him Magnum 5, one of only 11 built for the GSXR Water boiler engine.

Old skool motor’s charging system brought up to muster by the addition of a GPZ9 alternator, piggy back styled off the gear box sprocket

Jack needs a FZ in his stable.

Cracking weekend, moist and windswept at times.
